Spc. Donald Samuel Oaks Jr.

Individuals USCBSNEWS.com - Spc. Donald Samuel Oaks Jr., 20, Harborcreek, Pa., was killed when a bomb landed on a multi-launch rocket weapon, said relatives who were informed by military personnel April 3.

Oaks' father said he was told it was friendly fire, but declined to speak further. His grandfather, Samuel Oaks, said military officials were unsure of the source of the bomb.

Oaks, who was attached to the 3rd Infantry Division, joined the Army after graduating from Harbor Creek High School.

"He joined to get schooling benefits after he got out. He wanted to continue his education after he got out of the service," his grandfather said.

He was stationed at Fort Sill, Okla., and was sent to Kuwait in late January, his grandfather said.

The Department of Defense did not immediately confirm Oaks' death.

At least one U.S. soldier in the 3rd Infantry Division was reported killed by friendly fire in fighting outside Baghdad.
