President Bush did not start this War

General News

Our President did not start this war. The title on the Front page is keeping many people from joining this site. I am asking that It either be changed, or the owner of the site explain what he means by stating that the war was started by President Bush. The war started along time ago. Bush will see that it ends.

God Bless America

I mean that I do not think this war is just.  President Bush pushed this war until it happened.  I had no complaints with the war in Afghanistan, but I hold Bush responsible for the deaths caused by this war.  I respect and rever the soldiers who are fighting in my name and am sorry to see what I consider their unnecessary deaths.

I find it strange that people say I cannot support the troops and not support the President, but I do.  I am gratefull for the sacrifice the troops are making and feel responsible myself, as an American, for that sacrifice.  And because I am responsible I honor them.

It takes an act of Congress to start a war, not a Presidential whim.

The accusation at the top of this web page is disprespectful to the memory of the honored heroes who have given their lives so bravely.

The statement "started by George Bush" MUST BE REMOVED. You are using the names of honorable people to push your anti-war agenda. You don't even have the decency to give the appropriate title of President in your sentence. What the webmaster and many others don't understand is that we are at war. Afganistan and Iraq are two operations in that war just like Germany and Japan were in WWII. By your observations, WWII was then started by President Roosevelt. Korea was started by President Truman. Vietnam by President Kennedy. Oh but wait, those are all Democrat Presidents. No wonder nothing is said like that. Like in those times, this war was started by several sources but primarily two main ones, Saddam Hussain and Osama bin Laden. Put the blame where it belongs, on them. I'd also like to remind everyone that the United States Congress with the exact same information as President Bush agreed to this Operation. The UN also put in their final resolution that if Saddam Hussain did not comply, force would be permitted.

I'd also like to comment on the honor of our National Guard and Reserve. All too often, people think that they are only to be used just on United States soil. Please name me in our history when that was done. Those units mission have always been to suppliment and work around the world with the regular military services in all of our conflicts. They don't sit on the beaches and wait for an enemy to land. This is also an all volunteer military. They knew (or should have )what they were getting into. It is not right for others to now speak in their place as to what their beliefs were whether be it family or friends. I am reminded what Stephen Ambrose said about the boys of WWII. That these young men didn't ask for it but it fell upon them to rid the world of an evil and they answered the call.

As a Gulf war vet I must object to specialist henderson. Bush did start the current fiasco and should be held responsible for the deaths of our soldiers. Wake up everyone. 911 was financed by Saudi Arabia. If bush was serious about the war on terror we would be invading the country most responsible for haboring, financing and training terrorists - Saudi Arabia. Iraq was just a diversion. How you can support this chickenhawk, AWOL deserter is beyond me. If the uniform code of military justice wasn't subverted by pappy bush- junior would have gotten a well deserved bad conduct discharge.

Would someone please explain to me how Saddam started this war. If memory serves me correctly, Bush was the agressor.  If W. would have fininshed the first war, Bin Laden would now be dead or in custody.  The US would sleep safer and the bombing in Spain could have been avoided.   This is what I see...Bush started a new war before the other one was finished.  Why not find Bin Laden first?  Who was the real threat to the U.S?  Bin Laden or Saddam?  How can you blame the Democrats for this?  I believe Bin Laden is the one that started the war on terrorism.  And Bush started the war with Iraq.  Unless Bin Laden plans on voting for Kerry this fall, I don\'t think a Democrat can be blamed.

I am offended by the insinuation that President Bush is the cause of the war and thus murdered countless men and women who risked their lives to free the Iraqi people. I support President Bush and will continue to support him throughout the upcoming election season.

At the risk of being an ass, does anyone have any solutions?

Im back from Iraq and can tell you it is a bit of a lose lose situation. . If Sen Kerry is elected, it will be just like Pres Nixon. He will inherit a war that has no end. If you think back to Veitnam, Pres Johnson started to de escalate the war. Pres Nixon comes in and restarts rolling thunder.

If we start to back down now, history will repeat itself The problem is that everyone in a place of power in the country seems to have gotten there by killing the guy ahead of him. If we pull out now, the country will fall into chaos. If we stay, we get shot at.

Regardless of whether Bush is responsible for the deaths of these innocent people or not, that is the site administrator's decision and prerogative and if you disagree, I believe it is your right to design a new and better site of your choosing. If you don't want to do that, let him say what he wants, its his site.

We've learned a lot in the past few weeks about how this war was "planned" by the President. The Vice President has been described as obsessed with going to war with Iraq as early as 2001.

I supported the decision to go to war last spring. I cheered for our troops as they made their way to Baghdad. They were amazing! I was so proud.

Now my heart breaks every day when I realize how out of control the situation has gotten. Every day there are more deaths and injuries. My friends are coming home from Iraq with terrible stories. I can't take it any more. I'm angry and worried and don't know what we're going to do.

Well, I know one thing I'm going to do. I'm going to vote for a Democrat come November and hope that he'll do a better job of managing the Iraq situation. He can't do much worse.

Thank you for this site. I never want to forget these men and women. Never.

Whether we want to believe it or not, this war has been brewing for a long time. If it hadn't happened now, it would have happened eventually. These terrorist groups and the governments that support them have been getting bolder and going in to areas that they have never bothered before. 9/11 wasn't the first terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. We let the first one go by with barely a response, we did almost nothing to improve our security while decreasing the size and funding of our military. Unfortunately, we have to make some tough decisions. Do we want to remain the free and open society that we are? If so, we have to go out and change some things in the world. These terrorists don't play nice and follow the rules, and diplomacy isn't going to change that. Someone who is willing to viciously blow themselves up in order to kill massive numbers of innocent people isn't a good guy, and he needs to be dealt with in a harsh way. Slapping his hand and telling him to be nice isn't going to do it. We have 2 choices. We can go in with massive force and take them out, without regard to any innocent people who get in the way, and deal with the world backlash associated with it. Or we can whittle away at them and be willing to suffer the losses that go along with that. As the mother of a soldier in harms way, I'll admit that there have been times that I've said 'Just go in there and blow the *** away'. What we can't do is have it both ways. We can't keep our free and open society and all of the freedoms that we enjoy AND expect the terrorists to leave us alone. It doesn't work that way, because everyone else doesn't play by our rules. I'd love nothing more than to go over there and bring every one of our soldiers home, including my own son. But it won't be the end. Unless we finish this now, we'll end up right back here eventually. Bush may have been the one who physically declared war, but the policies of the last 10-12 years have ensured that it was inevitable. We let anyone and everyone into our country, we don't put too many restrictions or monitoring on anyone, and we don't infringe on anyone's right (citizen or not). That's the American way, and we like it. Combine that with years of cutting and underfunding our military and our defense projects while foreign governments are funding and growing terrorism, and you get 9/11. We've known for years what was going on, but we were too civilized to go in quietly and massacre the guy and his ring when we had the chance under Clinton. We waited until 9/11. If we wait any longer, there will be another attack and it will be worse. We have to make a stand, and pointing the finger at a single person is inaccurate. There is plenty of blame to go around, for both Republicans and Democrats. For people who want to complain about the war, before you say anything, make sure that you are prepared to live with the constant threat of terrorism. There is only one way to stop it, and defecting to Canada isn't it. I have difficulty with the numbers of lives lost. The only thing worse than losing them, is losing them in vain by not putting an end to the terrorism. May God bless and protect our troops, help and guide them in their mission, and bring them safely home to us as soon as possible.

Sorry to say but there are some rather ignorant replies here.

Bush (and his government) DID start the war in Iraq.  He used the pretense of weapons of mass destruction to invade.  The UN and the rest of the world wanted to hear a final report from the UN inspectors on the ground.  Bush did not want to wait because he knew full well there were no weapons of mass destruction.  There were none, and there still is none, and there never will be as they were destroyed as Saddam, the UN, and as many others stated - including Scott Ritter the former American head of the UN weapons hunt team.

Bush knew he would lose the UN vote at the security council.  So he simply switched to the doctrine of 'pre-emptive war'.

The head of the UN just today stated what many have said all along - the US invasion of Iraq is in violation of the UN Charter AND international law.  Many of you have convinced yourselves otherwise.  The rest of the world is looking in at you in amazement at the shallowness to reality and history that is taking place in your nation.  Some posters here have a grasp of reality, but I am afraid to say some of you are so unwilling to come to grasps that Bush decided to engage in an illegal act of war and aggression.

So you know, I supported the war and current effort in Afghanistan as the real terrorists were actually supported and sheltered there.  As for the Iraq war, there has NEVER been a connection between Saddam and Osama.  Colin Powell himself declares that to be true.  There were no weapons of mass destruction, and Saddams pathetic forces were no danger to anyone - especially America.  Saddam was a ruthless dictator - no doubt - but don't forget, that knowledge did not stop George Bush Sr and Ronald Reagan from supporting him.  Rumsfeld even saw fit to shake hands with the man.
